This 8-week workshop is a structured introduction to the art of wheel-thrown ceramics. Students will build a strong foundation in both technique and studio practices while creating functional and decorative pieces. Tuition: $550 for the full 8-week course Workshop Overview Throughout this course, students will learn: - Studio etiquette and safety procedures - Cleaning practices and shared studio expectations - Clay preparation - Wheel throwing fundamentals - Trimming techniques - Surface decoration and embellishment - Glazing methods This class is designed for beginners and those looking to refine foundational skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. Weekly Curriculum Each week builds on the previous, guiding students through the full ceramic process: Week 1: Studio expectations, safety procedures, wheel demonstration, clay prep, centering & opening Week 2: Continue centering & opening, pulling walls, forming complete pieces Week 3: Throwing practice with one-on-one guidance and troubleshooting Week 4: Continued throwing, exploring new forms Week 5: Final week of throwing, trimming demonstration, trimming practice Week 6: Continued trimming, brief introduction to textures and handles Week 7: Final trimming, glazing demonstration, begin glazing Week 8: Full glazing session Attendance Policy Due to the structured nature of this workshop, consistent attendance is strongly encouraged. - Sunday sessions may be used for make-ups or additional practice (up to 3 included open studio visits) - Make-up sessions are not guaranteed and depend on availability - Missed classes without notice may result in forfeited time without compensation Tuition & Refund Policy - Tuition is non-refundable once the course begins - Cancellations made at least one week prior to the start date may be eligible for a refund or transfer - No refunds or credits will be issued for missed classes Studio Expectations To maintain a safe, respectful, and productive environment: - Follow all instructor guidance and studio procedures - Arrive on time and ready to participate - Clean your workspace and tools at the end of each session - Be mindful and respectful of shared equipment, materials, and fellow students Finished Work & Pick-Up Due to the multi-step firing and glazing process, finished pieces will be available for pickup at a later date. - Students will be notified when work is ready - Pieces must be picked up within [X days/weeks] or may be discarded due to limited storage space Agreement By enrolling in this workshop, you acknowledge and agree to all policies listed above. This class is designed for ages 18+ or 16+ with parent permission and reliable transportation.
What's included

- Up to 3 open studio sessions (available on Sundays)
- Sunday make-up sessions for missed classes (subject to availability)
- 25 lbs of clay
- Access to all studio tools, glazes, and equipment
- Bisque and glaze firings for up to 10 finished pieces (students will create more work during the process, but will select their favorite pieces to keep and fire)
What to bring
- Close-toed shoes are required
- No loose clothing permitted around equipment
- Long hair must be tied back when using equipment
- Long nails are strongly discouraged and are not guaranteed to be accommodated
