About This Class
A structured introduction to the world of wheel thrown ceramics. In this workshop we'll cover studio etiquette and safety, cleaning practices, clay prep, throwing, trimming, surface decoration and embellishment, and glazing. Here's a look into the curriculum for each week: W1 - Studio expectations and procedures, wheel throwing demonstration, clay prep, practice centering and opening W2 - Continue centering and opening, pulling and shaping walls demonstration, piece together entire throwing process W3 - Full day of throwing practice, one-on-one help and troubleshooting W4 - Continue throwing practice, explore new forms W5 - Last day of throwing practice, trimming demonstration, trimming practice W6 - Continue trimming practice, brief introduction to textures and handles W7 - Last day for trimming, glazing demonstration, glaze day W8 - Full day of glazing
What's Included
- 8, 3 hour sessions plus up to 3 open studio sessions (available on Sundays). $400/8 weeks
- Sunday makeup sessions for any missed classes
- 50lbs of clay
- Access to all tools, glazes, and equipment
- Bisque and glaze firings for up to 10 pieces (you will throw a lot more than you end up keeping!)
What to Bring
- Remember to wear clothes that can get messy along with close-toed shoes and have long hair pulled back. Long nails are strongly discouraged. You may be asked to remove any hand/arm jewelry and roll up long sleeves before each class.
