About this class
Intermediate Wheel Throwing Workshop Looking to hone your existing skills on the potter's wheel? This workshop is just for you! This four-week workshop focuses on developing your throwing skills and working with larger and more challenging forms. We'll cover techniques for: - Centering larger amounts of clay (5–8 lbs) - Throwing taller cylinders - Throwing wide bowls - Creating lidded vessels using two different techniques - Refining your trimming techniques This workshop is specifically focused on wheel throwing and forming techniques. Glazing is not included in the workshop, but glazing services can be arranged separately after the workshop. Skill Level Requirements This workshop is designed for students who already have a solid foundation in wheel throwing. It is strongly recommended that participants have 6 months to 1 year of consistent wheel-throwing experience before enrolling. Students should already be comfortable with the following: - Centering 3–4 lbs of clay with minimal difficulty - Throwing a cylinder 6 inches or taller using no more than 2 lbs of clay - Consistently maintaining even, appropriately proportioned walls based on the amount of clay being used These skills are important prerequisites for getting the most out of the workshop. This is a somewhat fast-paced course, and class time will be primarily dedicated to the techniques outlined in the curriculum. There will be limited time available for reviewing foundational throwing skills or providing one-on-one assistance outside of the workshop's scope. If you are unsure whether your current skill level is a good fit, please feel free to reach out before registering!
